After developing Abdominal Etching in 1993, Dr. Henry Mentz used the liposculpting techniques he invented to create Pectoral Etching to maximize the athletic, masculine appearance of the male chest. Pectoral Etching removes stubborn pockets of fat from the chest that are resistant to diet and exercise, then enhances the muscles of the chest for amazing results. In Pectoral Etching, triple board-certified Houston plastic surgeon, Dr. Henry Mentz uses a detailed liposuction technique to outline the pectoralis muscle and axilla, which gives the chest a more muscular appearance. Dr. Mentz also developed a puncture incision technique which leaves a generally undetectable scar so the final results will look more natural.
Pectoral Etching® Reviews
"This review is long overdue. I had liposuction with Dr. Mentz back in 2005. I had succumbed to a rather unhealthy lifestyle and it was catching up to me. I was tipping the scales at nearly 200 lbs and it looked terrible on my 5'5" frame. What is worse is that I used to be a gymnast and had worked hard to produce a physique in my younger years I could be proud of. So I was pretty disgusted with myself. When I met Dr. Mentz he was understanding and helpful in creating a surgical plan I could be happy with. I wanted lipo with ab etching (a process that removes fat from in between the abdominal muscles, and he suggested a few other things like pectoral etching and removing some of the fat under my chin. When it was over I felt like I had been run over by a truck (got to be honest) but over the next few weeks when the swelling went down, I began to see the effects of the surgery. Now 9 yrs later I can still see my abs and most people guess me at between 10-15 yrs younger than my 52 yrs. My surgery motivated me to eat better and I lost a lot of weight as well getting down to about 155 at my lowest with a waist 2" smaller than when I was in high school. I couldn't be happier with my decision to get the surgery...and even happier with my choice of surgeons. BTW I flew into Houston from Nevada because Dr. Mentz was a pioneer in the surgery I was looking for. Very few things I can say I am 100% happy with but this is definitely one of them! Pectoral Etching can typically be completed in 1-2 hours as an outpatient procedure. In the Pectoral Etching procedure, Dr. Mentz uses a small, specialized cannula to remove excess fat from the chest area through liposuction. If excess glandular tissue is also present, Dr. Mentz removes this using an innovative puncture incision technique, which generally leaves undetectable scars. Fat is then removed from the edges of the pectoralis muscles and axilla in order to create more visible definition of the muscular contours.
Following your procedure, you will be fitted with a compression garment to reduce bruising and swelling. Most bruising and swelling diminishes within two weeks. Most patients can return to work in 3-4 days and resume exercise in 2-3 weeks or when Dr. Mentz advises. If you live within 30 miles of our facility, Dr. Mentz will offer a visit to your home by a plastic surgery nurse who is trained to assist with your recovery. The nurse will monitor your recovery, change any dressings, assist you with your medication, and provide Dr. Mentz with an update on your condition.

Pec Etch FAQs
With Ab Etch?
Because many men who are interested in Pectoral Etching also have excessive breast development and softness in the abdominal area, Dr. Mentz frequently combines Pectoral Etching with gynecomastia surgery to restore a more masculine chest contour and/or Abdominal Etching to give the abdomen a more athletic appearance. Abdominal Etching, like Pectoral Etching, outlines the underlying muscles of the abdomen to reveal the contours of the muscles that create the look of “washboard abs.”
Why Dr. Mentz?
Since introducing his Pectoral Etching and Abdominal Etching (1992) procedures, Dr. Mentz’s innovative lipocontouring techniques have generated international acclaim for their success in helping men to obtain muscular definition that can be difficult or impossible to achieve through workouts alone. Dr. Mentz has presented his techniques to plastic surgeons around the globe and teaches a popular course on his liposuction methods at the respected American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery annual meeting.
“Once we were successful in creating an athletic abdomen through Abdominal Etching, the chest became a concern for us,” says Dr. Mentz. “Balance is one of the most important elements of plastic surgery, so treating the chest with the abdomen is crucial.”
Dr. Mentz offers all of his Pectoral Etching patients a complimentary post-surgical massage at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery MedSpa. Using a combination of lymphatic and Swedish massage techniques, the post-surgical massage is designed to improve the body’s recovery by stimulating the lymphatic system and reducing bruising, swelling, and numbness.
To help diminish postoperative scars, ACPS has designed a Scar Therapy System, which consists of three products to be applied daily in the weeks following surgery. This package includes two SkinMedica products: TNS Recovery Complex and Tri-Retinol Complex, plus an advanced scar treatment gel. As an added benefit, the SkinMedica products can be applied to the face as part of a long-term daily routine to improve the skin’s tone and texture.
